Kuidaore in Osaka – Street Food, Nostalgia, and Retro Vibes

Sharing some favorite Osaka moments beyond the fugu experience I posted earlier.
I’m now in Kyoto—but honestly, missing Osaka already…

Food Memories

1. Okonomiyaki
   If you’ve never tried this, 2024 is your year. A savory pancake made with flour, cabbage, and other fillings, topped with Worcestershire sauce, mayo, bonito flakes, and dashi. We had it teppanyaki-style with oysters. I almost cried—it was that delicious. It reminded me of takoyaki but heartier.
2. Kushiage
   Deep-fried skewers served with Worcestershire-style sauce. So crispy, so satisfying.
3. Sukiyaki
   Thinly sliced beef simmered in a sweet soy broth with tofu, scallions, and shirataki. Rich, homey, and unforgettable.
4. Oysters & Stewed Daikon
   I’m an oyster lover, so why not? Paired with minced pork atop slowly simmered daikon in soy sauce—it was cozy and perfect.

The fugu adventure was another fantastic story:

City Vibes

Smart Ball
A nostalgic Japanese retro game, somewhere between pinball and pachinko. I didn’t fully get the rules, but it was so charming and analog.

Old-school Game Arcades
I stumbled upon an Igo club (Japanese chess) with older locals—it had such authentic, peaceful energy.

大阪、おいしすぎて面白すぎて✨食い倒れました！

大阪は密で、面白すぎます。
一方、今日は京都を歩きまくりつつ、毎秒京都ロスなくらい、京都も楽しすぎていけません。。😢

さて、大阪の振り返り・・・。

１．初めての大阪のお好み焼き。スーパー美味しくて、2軒目ながら、深夜の背徳でした。特に、牡蠣が入ったもの＆ネギ焼きなるものが美味しすぎて美味しすぎて。。。これは本当に、超別格でした。

２．串焼き：絶対的に紅ショウガが好みです。

３. すき焼き：あまりすき焼き文化で育ってこなかったのですが、年々大好きになってきています

４．友人お勧めの素敵な居酒屋さんで。いや～～～そうでした。牡蠣大好きなのでした（英語にしてRの付く月は牡蠣を食べ続けます（鮮度が良いといわれているのを信じて））

５．美味しい日本ワイン：大阪に移られた大好きな先輩との再会、幸せな時間。。。旅先だと思うと、さらに止まりません😇笑

６．お散歩：囲碁クラブ！渋くて、しびれました😳

７．スマートボール：レトロ＆楽しすぎてびっくりしました😂笑
