Good morning✨Last one! Would be happy if this series serves as any hint to enjoy the essence of Japanese cooking & omotenashi spirit🥰🙏✨✨

Documentation on Osechi (Japanese new year bento) item.
Each item has wishes & meanings, I try to cook to make those points stand out✨

Today introducing “Matsukaze-yaki/松風焼き (Japanese style chicken meatloaf)”.
It’s everyone’s favorite, more closer to everyday dishes.

Super Quick recipe of Matsukaze-yaki (arranged to be easier) & Stories🥚💛

It was interesting… This traditional dish is always sprinkled with poppy seeds- and I had unsuccessful shopping marathon to several malls only until… I learned that poppy seeds are prohibited in Singapore (in the context of drugs)😳

Matsukaze-yaki is a simple dish where we bake ground chicken seasoned with miso etc, cut in traditional shape & top with poppy seeds.
The name origins from a famous Noh ( Japanese traditional plays)- but long story short, the festive looks with sprinkled poppy seeds is only on top- nothing on the bottom side- symbolizes the sincere & honest (unlike being double-sided /faced).

Another interesting story- we were not allowed to eat meat such as beef / pork before 150yrs ago or so.
If you have a tea ceremony (which usually serves old traditional food)- meat would mean fish/chicken/ duck.
So this has to be done with chickens🐓

1.Mix ground chicken(500g) with 2TBS Miso, 1egg, 1TBS Sugar & Sake.
2.Top with poppee seeds… or, I did sesame & Ao-Nori (seaweed, only after baked or else it will be burnt).Bake for 30-40min in 200~220C, depending on the container.
3.Cut in dovetail shape- it looks like fans – we stick bamboo skrewers too.
4. Yummmmy😋
